I would like to know of members' experiences in using the simplified equations for LV circuit breakers from IEEE 1584 section 5.7. If they work for people where they do not have the circuit breaker characteristics it may help contractors and service providers as a way of quickly determining dangerous incident energy levels. Any information will be gratefully appreciated, either positive or negative, or whether you have used the equations in practice or theory? Many thanks, Mike |

I've thought of the same question. Using that table and equations would make a fault analysis very easy and the only downside would be that the IE value would probably be higher than if you used real arcing current and clearing time. There were some conditions that you had to clarify to use the table if I remember. Check the notes. |
