Good Morning Folks;
Table 130.7(C)(15)(a) Insulated Cable Examination Other Equipment 1kV through 38 kV Insulated cable examination
Where is an examination defined? I assume that since rubber gloves are required that the examination involved moving, touching or otherwise manipulating the cable(s). What about visual inspections that are within inches, but not in contact, of the cable(s)? Do these two entries apply to all cable inspections or only to cables that have damage or are suspected to have damaged?
Any threads that you know of that addressed/discussed this?
Thanks in advance for any information.
Bill

As far as High Voltage: this is covered under the NESC, prepared by IEEE. this covers utilitiy work and there are tables within the for clearance. Please note that before a line rated 1kv iss tested and properly grounded it is energized. Testing of thse lines is done with a voltmeter on a hot stick. This requires training. The approche distance is very large. No, I don.t work on thiese voltages, but I would get training before I do, and I would use hot stikes, and insulated buckets if I did. Here is where the NEC does not completely cover the usual large industail plant. Both outside ares and large plant distribution systems are not completly covered. Earlier on the NESC deleted utilization equipment rules, because the utilities generated and distributed, and the NEC coverage provided minimium coverge of outdoor and Medium voltage. NESC
